AnHeC (I'm too fucking busy and vice versa)

NO! Just no. This is one of my many technical pet-peeves. There. I've said it. Scabbards aren't lined with steel. They never were and presumably never will be. There's no metal grinding against metal! Damn it.

I almost threw my e-book reader at other bus passengers.

A tip - let's clean our designated comments' pages regurarly (no more notification floods)

Basically, if you, the moderator of your blog, delete all comments of a person from under a post, they won't get any more notifications for it. Let's regularly 'clean up' our designated comments' pages, so that notifications remain relevant.

[REBLOG] Customizing Shelf Sort Order

By default, visitors to your Shelf page will initially see your books sorted by the date they were added, with the most recently added books first.  Want to change the initial sort order for your shelf page, for instance to show your most recently read books first?  Here's how:

[REBLOG] The Master Post Theory

At this point, there really isn't way to post status on books like we had on Goodreads. In an effort to find a decent work around, I came up with the "master post" theory of posting book updates (which, btw, has nothing to do with the current BDSM romance trend), which I'll share here. Also, I suck at screen caps, so we're going to have to make do with actual words.

A simple tip - everything is too big? Zoom out.

Obvious post is obvious. But if one person has an 'eureka' moment it's worth it.

"We don’t need a list of rights and wrongs, tables of dos and don'ts: we need books, time, and silence. Thou shall not is soon forgotten, but Once upon a time lasts forever. - Philip Pullman "

[REBLOG FOR TRUTH] Yup!

"But a personal boycott is not censorship because the reader isn't saying author A with the bad attitude shouldn't be published... Deciding not to read a particular author or buy a particular author does not suppress the author's right to publish (particularly in this day and age). Concerted boycotts can have that effect but only if the numbers are large enough which is highly rare in the case of a reader and an author."

-- Jane Litte, Dear Author
http://dearauthor.com/book-reviews/the-personal-boycott-and-how-its-not-censorship/

In short, being boycotted won't destroy your career, so stop claiming that it will. Only what YOU say/do will destroy your career. But that's just my opinion.

[REBLOG] Book Jokes to Make You Smile

Enjoy a bit book humor everyone

I went to the book store earlier to buy a 'Where's Wally' book. When I got there, I couldn't find the book anywhere. Well played Wally, well played.

An open letter to STGRB

I needed to get it out. Here it comes:

Dear STGRB, it's like you took a damn degree in antagonizing. I’m sorry if I behaved in a way that made you feel I should apologize.

I ain’t afraid of nothing except jellyfish which is completely normal. I also want you to know I practice selective deafness to hurtful remarks, so I won't be intimidated. I'd advise you to do the same. You're all taking the world awfully personally.

Did you know that a list of badly behaving booklikers was created?

After what Kaia said I went ahead to check out who's on the list... I must say I didn't see that one coming.

Guess what? That's right! Yours truly!

Your book counter - make it fun and pretty!

One thing I was jealous of in a wooden theme was a book counter. And since I couldn't get over it, I made my own:

A see-through background for comment section (100% text visibility)

To make your comments more readable you may have decided to put a uniform background under a comment section. But wouldn't it be awesome to make it transparent so they are more readable while your background image (presumably an awesome one that you want to show off) remains visible?

'Reactive' links - round links on your 'shelf' page (different look for different 'state of link')

On a page of my shelf I had this:

And I wanted something like this (second one is what happens when you hover your mouse over it):

Or at least this (once again the second one has cursor hovering over):

DIY Spoilertags!

*Previous post had a little problem. This one will work (I'm talking about method 2)

If you're a goodreads transplant, and, like me, depended heavily on those handy little spoilertags, then don't worry.  Booklikes is flexible enough that you can make your own!

Here are two ways, for different levels of effort/html-savvyness.  And since I actually am quite rusty and haven't used javascript or html for years, I'll bet my life there are even better ways.
